About an hour's drive from Denver, Summit County is known as "Colorado's Playground" for good reason. While best known for World Class ski and snowboarding, there is a lot to do in the summertime as well. Golfing, hiking, fishing, rafting, cycling, and mountain biking are just a few of the activities enjoyed by both locals and visitors. Lake Dillon not only offers beautiful views, but sailing and boating as well.
While Main Street Frisco and Main Street Breckenridge offer more personal shopping experiences, for those of you who consider shopping a sport, be sure to check out the Outlets at Silverthorne.
Map Featuring Ski Areas in and around Summit
Towns
Breckenridge was once a mining town that has transformed itself into a true ski town located at 9,600 feet above sea level. Many lodging options are a short walk to Main Street and/or ski-in/ski-out.
Copper Mountain is more of a resort than a true town. Most residences are a ski-in/ski-out or a short walk from the nearest ski lift. At Copper Mountain you will find an athletic club, restaurants, and ski shops. Woodward at Copper is a year round ski and snowboard program offering
winter day camps and week-long summer camps. In Summer, Copper Creek offers an affordable 18 hole golf course that includes several holes that are part of the ski area in winter.
Dillon and Silverthorne are two Summit County towns off I-70 that seamlessly integrate with each other along US-6 and CO-9. Points of interest include Dillon Town Center, Lake Dillon, the Dillon Dam, the Silverthorne Recreation Center and the Outlet Shops at Silverthorne.
Frisco is centrally located with a walkable Main Street that includes a variety of restaurants and shops. From Main Street there is direct Summit Stage bus service to Copper (6 miles) and Breckenridge (9 miles) and connecting service to Keystone (10 miles) and A-Basin (16 miles). With Vail less than 30 miles west on I-70 and Beaver Creek only 7 miles further, Frisco allows visitors to stay in a real town with central access to all the local resorts.
Keystone is a family resort with some adjacent residential areas. In addition to the world class ski area, conference area and two Championship Golf Courses, Keystone offers the closest lodging to the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. The Keystone Science School offers both school year programs locally and summer camp programs open to kids from around the world.
Transportation
If you are arriving by air, Denver International Airport provides the most flight options. From DIA, you can rent a car or take the Colorado Mountain Express shuttle service.
Greyhound offers bus service from Denver as well as other service points to the Frisco Transit Center which is in the heart of Summit County.
The FREE
Summit Stage Bus allows both locals and visitors to get to many places in the county without a car. Find out details and schedule information at
